Rhod at Kilimanjaro

WE DID IT!

We did it! Climbed Kilimanjaro. 19,340 feet, Africa’s highest peak, and the tallest freestanding volcano in the world.

4 days up and 2 days down. Averaging 7 hours walking and 3 hours sleep per day, and on summit night, hiking for 20 hours in temperatures in the region of minus 15 degrees.

Cartilage problem in the knee, groin strain, headaches, altitude sickness, and crying for the last hour out of total exhaustion and euphoria.  I am home now, a broken man, in bed, ill.  It was beyond awful, but I loved every second.

Thanks to all who sponsored me at justgiving, and who donated at the Aberdare fundraiser.  The total stands at around £21,000 and is still rising.  You can still donate to the angels at Velindre Cancer Care at my justgiving page below.

Thanks to Barry Castagnola and Clint Edwards who kept me going, and in general to the most incredibly supportive group of 50 people I could possibly have wished to climb with.  You know who you are.
